MMP-9, known for its critical role in extracellular matrix remodeling and inflammation, has been implicated in various physiological and pathological processes. Our observational study, conducted with a substantial cohort from Samsung Medical Center, investigates the influences of air quality indicators, meteorological parameters, demographic factors, and a broad spectrum of disease conditions on MMP-9 levels. Using multivariate regression analysis, we explore the strength and direction of these associations, revealing significant links between MMP-9 and variables such as ozone levels, particulate matter, age, and specific health conditions like Diabetes Mellitus, Heart Failure, and Atherosclerosis. Our findings offer valuable insights into internal factors influencing MMP-9 expression, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for various pathological conditions. The non-invasive nature of MMP-9 measurement through tears underscores the convenience and applicability of this biomarker in clinical diagnostics and personalized medicine.
